Biography

Colin J. Smith lives in Portland, Oregon and focuses his work on emerging markets and new business models for clean energy.

His international background includes time spent living and working in The Netherlands, Mexico, Australia, Rwanda, Honduras and travel to East Asia.

As a financial journalist, Colin covered private equity for mergermarket.com, of the Financial Times Group in New York City. He also authored a weekly column for the buyouts newsletter The Brief, and developed research reports on dealmaking and distressed debt.

Outside of the corporate world, Colin has worked as a scuba diving professional in Roatan, Honduras and as a health policy intern for USAID in Kigali, Rwanda.

A recent business school graduate, Colin received his Master’s degree in International Management from Portland State University and his B.A in Political Science and International Studies from the University of Oregon. He speaks Spanish and has graduate-level training in Mandarin Chinese.

While relaxing, Colin enjoys mountains, oceans, traveling, running, coffee, beer and friends.
